Zedd grew up and began his career in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Zedd's best-known productions to date are the songs "Clarity" featuring Foxes which charted at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at number one of the US Hot Dance Club Songs; and "Break Free", a song which peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, becoming his first song to do so. Zedd won the Grammy award for Best Dance Recording at the 56th Grammy Awards for "Clarity".

He was Selena's date to the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, which has sparked romance rumors, and they are working together as well. Their first single together, "I Want You to Know", was released on February 23, 2015. They were even seen around Atlanta while Selena worked on a movie. They also attended the Vanity Fair party after the 2015 Academy Awards on February 22, 2015.

On December 5, 2014, Selena revealed that Zedd would be working with her on her second album.[1] A couple of days later she posted a picture of herself on the way to the studio with a man's arm around her.[2] In January 2015, Zedd and Selena were still hanging out.[3][4][5] On January 9, 2015, they went to Notch's Housewarming Soiree together.[6] On January 11, 2015, Selena and Zedd attended the Golden Globes together. The following week Selena began work on her movie The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving with actor Paul Rudd and had to leave LA. She posted on Instagram that she missed Zedd.[7] Later that night, Zedd and Selena Facetimed.[8] On January 20, 2015, Zedd posted a picture saying "I want you to know."[9] Four days later, Selena posted a picture of Zedd's arms around her with a caption of "Hint #2 IWantYouToKnow.[10] A few days later, Selena and Zedd went bowling[11] On February 3, Zedd posted an old picture of the two of them in the studio that has the caption, "I'm on the left."[12]

In July 2015, Selena confirmed that she and Zedd had worked another song, a ballad, that she described as beautiful and very haunting.[13] She said it might be on her new album, Revival, but it was not included on the final tracklist.
