Rare is Selena Gomez's third solo studio album and second released through Interscope Records. It was released on January 10, 2020. She worked on the album for four years between January 2016 and May 2019.

Background

On June 24, 2016, Gomez tweeted saying that she had been in the studio for a few weeks and that she was very close to releasing her third studio album.[1]

On May 4, 2017, Gomez revealed that something new was coming.[2] On May 11, 2017, Gomez teased "Bad Liar" for the first time.[3] On May 12, 2017, Gomez revealed that "Bad Liar" would be released on May 18, 2017.[4] On July 6, 2017, Gomez teased "Fetish" on her social media.[5] The next day she revealed that the song would be released on July 13, 2017.[6]

On October 17, 2019, Gomez began to tease "Lose You to Love Me".[7][8][9] On October 18, 2019, Gomez revealed that the song would be released on October 23, 2019, and continued to tease the lyrics.[10][11] On October 20, 2019, Gomez began to tease the lyrics for "Look At Her Now".[12] On October 24, 2019, Gomez revealed and released the song.[13]

On November 20, 2019, Gomez announced that she had exciting news for tomorrow.[14] On November 21, 2019, Gomez announced via her social media accounts that her new album would be released on January 10, 2020, with information about the title, track list and artwork to follow.[15] On November 22, 2019, Gomez announced that there would be a Target exclusive edition of the album which would include the standard 13 tracks plus 5 bonus tracks.[16][17]

On December 12, 2019, Gomez announced the title, track-list, and cover art for her new album via her social media.[18]

    • Her favorite song from the album is called "Rare".
